Sea Hermit Crab, Mallorca, Spain from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Sea Hermit Crab, Mallorca, Spain from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Hello everyone...

Most species have long, spirally curved abdomens, which are soft, unlike the hard, calcified abdomens seen in related crustaceans. The vulnerable abdomen is protected from predators by a salvaged empty seashell carried by the hermit crab, into which its whole body can retract. Most frequently, hermit crabs use the shells of sea snails (although the shells of bivalves and scaphopods and even hollow pieces of wood and stone are used by some species). The tip of the hermit crab's abdomen is adapted to clasp strongly onto the columella of the snail shell. Most hermit crabs are nocturnal.

Crossroad of Old Streets of Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca, Spain from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Hello everyone...

The historical center of Palma is the oldest part of the city. It is also a refreshing area to walk in on one of Palma's hot humid days: the streets are narrow and shady. You will get a chance to peek in at a number of private courtyards. Personal guided tours can be arranged with private guides to take you around and explain inside the main sites. In addition, the historic center has a lot of attractions.

Beautiful Nature of Village Ostrov, Tisá, Czech Republic from Travel wit...

Beautiful Nature of Village Ostrov, Tisá, Czech Republic from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Hello everyone...

Village Ostrov was founded in the 15th century as one of the many hammers in the Bela river valley processing iron ore. When the ore deposits near the Děčínský Sněžník were mined, the hammer turned into a glass mill. Due to the picturesque location, a busy summer residence was built from the settlement in the 19th century, there were built hotels and several inns. After the end of the Second World War, the German inhabitants were expelled, the border closed, a unit of the Border Guards was stationed. Approximately 300 meters from the border, the border of the border was built, making part of the valley inaccessible to the public. From the hotels and hostels in the accessible part, there were company holiday resorts and most of the residential houses were used as holiday cottages. Buildings in the border zone were demolished in 1963. After the abolition of the border zone, this area was re-divided and sold for the construction of holiday cottages.

Harvesting Carob Pods (Algarrobos), Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain fr...

Harvesting Carob Pods (Algarrobos), Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Hello everyone...

Ceratonia siliqua, commonly known as the carob tree, St John's-bread or locust bean (not to be confused with the African locust bean), or simply locust-tree, is a species of flowering evergreen shrub or tree in the pea family, Fabaceae. It is widely cultivated for its edible pods, and as an ornamental tree in gardens. The ripe, dried pod is often ground to carob powder, which is used to replace cocoa powder. Carob bars, an alternative to chocolate bars, are often available in health-food stores.

The carob tree is native to the Mediterranean region, including Southern Europe, Northern Africa, the larger Mediterranean islands, the Levant and Middle-East of Western Asia into Iran; and the Canary Islands and Macaronesia. The carat, a unit of mass for gemstones, and of purity for gold, takes its name, indirectly, from the Arabic word for a carob seed, carrat.

Almond Nut Harvesting, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain from Travel wit...

Almond Nut Harvesting, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Hello everyone...

The almond (Prunus dulcis, syn. Prunus amygdalus) is a species of tree native to the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and North Africa.

"Almond" is also the name of the edible and widely cultivated seed of this tree. Within the genus Prunus, it is classified with the peach in the subgenus Amygdalus, distinguished from the other subgenera by corrugations on the shell (endocarp) surrounding the seed.

The fruit of the almond is a drupe, consisting of an outer hull and a hard shell with the seed, which is not a true nut, inside. Shelling almonds refers to removing the shell to reveal the seed. Almonds are sold shelled or unshelled. Blanched almonds are shelled almonds that have been treated with hot water to soften the seedcoat, which is then removed to reveal the white embryo.
